Creative business: phytodesign

Design services are always in demand among the population. Despite the large number of design firms, today even small studios can successfully exist in the market, although the level of competition does not affect their activities in the best way. But even with such a wide distribution of design studios, most of them offer a general range of services without in-depth design of any area. And so there are “thematic” designers who are engaged in not quite standard orders. This includes the field of phytodesign.

Phytodesign is the arrangement of premises with plants, and this direction focuses not only on the aesthetic appeal of the project being created, but also on its scientific validity and practical component. It is no secret that green spaces have a good effect on human health and well-being, and many bosses are thinking about adding living plants to the decoration of their office. All this significantly affects the expediency of phytodesign, and the most progressive businessmen are already beginning to turn to such services today.

This direction has the advantage that not so many firms are engaged in it, that is, the level of competition in large cities is quite low. Of course, ordinary design studios can accept such a project and completely concentrate on creating the correct arrangement of certain plants relative to each other and the interior, but at the same time they will not take into account the natural features of the plants themselves, and this is very important in this direction. In general, it is the compatibility of plants that is the essential difference between phytodesign and simple design itself. Even floristry does not study these characteristics of plants so deeply, therefore phytodesign stands out as a separate direction in human activity, and not a small subsection of design art. But hence the consequence – only a person can do this work, who has undergone appropriate training and is well versed in all the features of the work. He needs to understand the principles of design, floristry, as well as the specific moments of this particular direction. Phytodesign should not be done by amateurs, because sooner or later a person will appear who will offer something better.

To start your work, you need to register as a business entity. For simplicity, you can remain an individual by registering as an individual entrepreneur. This will not require significant financial investments in registration, it will significantly simplify the workflow, and it will pass much faster in time. If there is a need to register a legal entity, then it is preferable to choose a limited liability company, because in this case a simplified taxation system is available: 6% of income or 15% of operating profit in favor of the state, which is noticeably lower than the corporate income tax. An important point is the choice of the OKVED code, and such activities fit the definition (OKPD 2) 74.1 Specialized design services. In order to avoid mistakes at the registration stage, it is better to contact a competent lawyer or, in general, a specialized firm that helps novice entrepreneurs to formalize their business in the manner prescribed by law. But in this case, additional financial investments will be required.

Similar types of business are not only design services and florist services, but also the trade in fresh or artificial flowers – phytodesign combines all this and brings additional specifics. That is, you need to be a florist, designer, seller, and also a kind of scientist who has gained knowledge in this area. Here, the entrepreneur has two ways: to obtain this knowledge on his own or to attract employees. It’s better to understand for yourself what your business is based on, and therefore contact specialized offices that conduct phytodesign courses.

Among the abundance of such teachers, it is important to choose a real one, and not one who just wants money, explaining some spatial things that later will not find practical application. It is also important to familiarize yourself with the training program itself, because it may be incomplete or cover unnecessary points for work. A firm offering such services must have some kind of certificate for conducting educational activities, not to mention a state standard license for such work.

You will have to allocate at least a month for classes, and classes in this case should be held with high frequency, otherwise you will not be able to master all the necessary material. Of the common types of phytodesign, you need to study all the information about landscaping, plant growing rules (planting, care, maintenance, temperature, physical effects), design principles (combination of colors, arrangement of elements, psychological perception, symbolism), studying the properties of objects (from the natural characteristics of plants to the features of pots and vases), as well as the rules for composing bouquets and the “language of flowers”. Additionally, they learn how to work with the so-called winter garden and greenhouses, with Japanese arrangements (primarily ikebana), work with dry flowers and their compositions and artificial flowers. Also important,

As a result, the trained person becomes a full-fledged phytodesigner, and the training company must issue a certificate of completion of these courses. This will later be used more in advertising and to confirm one’s qualifications in front of clients, but the main thing for an entrepreneur himself is to learn this art.

The cost of such courses can vary significantly. It starts from 10 thousand rubles, for ikebana it can be a little more expensive, but on average, full-fledged training will require about 20 thousand rubles. If there is no desire to study in a group or you need to quickly master knowledge, you can order individual training, but it will cost at least 50 thousand rubles. If there is no desire at all to spend time and effort on this, you can hire an already trained phytodesigner, but then you will have to give him a significant percentage of the order amount, and the entrepreneur will have to cooperate with many phytodesigners and find a huge number of orders, which can be difficult, especially at first time. Otherwise, you won’t be able to make a profit. That is, in this case, the business organizer will become a sales manager, although it is better to combine this position with a design one.

The next very important person is the florist. He will take care of the plants, collect them in bouquets, select them, that is, he will become the executor of the order (and not the project developer, as opposed to the phytodesigner). Florists will work in the company’s office, but their duties may also include visiting the site in order to bring the project to life, as well as subsequent customer service. Usually these duties are performed by different people, but at first, when there is no huge workload, the staff can be reduced. In some cases, a florist will be a phytodesigner, because his knowledge may be enough to create a project, but it is better to distinguish between executive and creative positions. Moreover, the company should also have assistant decorators who perform all the work related to the installation itself,

For work, you will also need a room, which does not have to be located in the central districts of the city – in order to save money, all presentations of your services can be carried out on your own website or already directly on the territory of the customer. Depending on the planned volumes of their work, the size of the premises is also selected, and it should be enough to service all orders at any given time. That is, it can be a simple closet where one florist works, and a huge greenhouse where purchased flowers are processed by a team of experienced workers. The company’s office is a “transit point” where florists collect bouquets purchased to order, plant plants and prepare them for subsequent installation at the customer’s site. Plus, you need to have a room to store all the products before sending them to the customer.

The work of the phytodesign studio consists of four parts, and each is a development of the previous one. The customer can limit himself to only the first part, and do the rest himself, or order a complex project that should be completed:

1. Phytodesign. This is the development of the project, taking into account all the requirements and wishes of the client and the features of the phytodesign itself, which takes into account the parameters of the room, the purpose of the room and its interior. Development only on paper, which upon completion is transferred to the customer. The cost of this type of work starts from 5 thousand rubles. The initial visit of the designer to the site is additionally paid.

2. Purchase of materials. The client may like rare plants or something completely unusual, and he may not want to buy simple plants on his own, entrusting this business to a professional. In this case, the phytodesigner buys the necessary materials (not only the plants themselves, but also pots, vases, fences, flower beds and other elements) and transfers them to the consumer. The cost of this work may not be charged (that is, the customer pays only for the flowers and materials themselves) or may be a small percentage of the purchase.

3. Installation. If the customer does not have the ability (or desire) to improve his premises on his own, then the studio will help him here. It is for this purpose that the staff contains an additional workforce – performers who simply carry out the installation. In essence, these three stages are the completed and implemented project of the phytodesign studio. Cost – usually a percentage of the price of purchased plants and accessories.

4. Service. When ennobling fresh flowers, one should not forget that they can die, and to prevent this, constant care is taken for them. Of course, the customer himself often starts doing this, but still he does not have sufficient knowledge to properly care for plants, especially exotic ones. In this case, an agreement is concluded for the constant arrival of a florist in order to maintain the created interior. Here it is also better to calculate the cost depending on the number of plants, and set a fixed fee per month. For the studio, this is good because it brings a constant income.

The cost of the project should not be less than a certain figure, but at the same time, it should still be calculated according to the area of \u200b\u200bthe room. You also need to take into account the preferences of the customer. Thus, several projects will allow you to get not only profit from the project itself, but also in the future will bring additional income for maintenance. However, not all clients want to use the entire list of services, often only one design is ordered – that is, the services of the designer himself.

To ensure uninterrupted work, you need to immediately find wholesale suppliers of all possible plants, including very exotic ones that do not grow in Russia. It is possible that we will have to cooperate with foreign companies and conclude contracts for the supply of plants from another continent. But the client will demand it, and the use of plants uncharacteristic for this country will be more expensive for the customer, but more profitable for the phytodesign studio. It is optimal if suppliers bring plants on demand, and especially unpretentious plants can be temporarily kept at home. In addition to the sellers of live goods, you need to negotiate with suppliers of consumables, additional elements, artificial flowers, and the like. In this type of business, you will have to cooperate with a large number of companies.

The main clients will almost certainly be other entrepreneurs – primarily those who maintain an office. Their projects will be more expensive (due to the size of the premises and high quality requirements) than those of private individuals. This is the second category of clients – people who want to decorate their home. Here you can count on very bold requirements, and the designer must be able to cope with the most complex tasks. In addition, the phytodesign studio is engaged in the fact that it provides its temporary decoration services. It can be banquets, weddings, business events, children’s parties and similar events. As a rule, such orders are carried out by floristry studios, but a phytodesigner can also take on such orders. Additional income can be provided for yourself if you engage in small production, that is, from purchased plants to create bouquets, compositions and even wreaths, in order to subsequently sell them at retail or wholesale. Such work can take a florist in the absence of orders, or it will bring a nice additional income. As in any creative business, here, too, you can come up with new ideas.

But in order to make a profit, you will have to pay great attention to advertising. First of all, you need to create your own website, which contains offers for customers, indicates the cost of services and describes in detail what phytodesign is and why it is needed at all. Here you will have to promote your product on your own, and not wait for demand from customers, because people in Russia are not yet too actively interested in such a service. Many even consider it a waste of money. Here it is better to focus primarily on those who need a design project for the premises in general – they should be offered a slightly more perfect service. Moreover, in terms of cost, it does not differ much from a conventional design project, which makes it possible to interest the consumer. It is possible that you will need to hire a sales manager (s),

Work in this area is distinguished by a creative approach, a non-standard format to the concept of design and, in some way, innovation. Nevertheless, at present, phytodesign is not a very common phenomenon, and the population, if properly interested, will certainly turn to such a new trend. The difficulties in this type of business lie primarily in the promotion of their services, motivation and interest of potential customers are needed, but, on the other hand, a small number of competitors are engaged in this, which means that a serious struggle cannot be expected. Therefore, having sufficient knowledge, you can open such an unusual project and count on making a profit. For people who are fond of phytodesign, this will become both a business and a hobby at the same time.
